I’ve often said that kids are like watercolors — whatever they’re around fades onto them. That’s why parents, teachers, and friends are so important. And, of course, kids can fade onto those around them.
Fact is, we’re all like watercolors. We take on the people and places with which we surround ourselves. Makes sense, then, that we’d want to pick those people and places with intention. Maybe, too, we ought to be intentional about the effect we hope to have on others.
Recently, a kid I see who’s changing schools shared with me a text message he’d gotten from a classmate. The classmate told the kid how much the kid influenced him in a short time and credited this kid with him staying in sports. We seldom tell people how much they’ve affected us. So, for all of you who have washed me with your grace, your brilliance, your wisdom, your patience (I could go on) — thank you!
